How to use this time zone calculator

Convert a time between two time zones

This time zone converter answers the question: “If it is this time in this city, what time is it in another city?” Select your source and destination time zones from the dropdowns, pick a date, enter the source time, and click Convert.

  1. Choose a From time zone — the city or region where the original time occurs.
  2. Choose a To time zone — the city you want to convert to.
  3. Select a date. Daylight saving time rules are applied for the date you choose, so results are correct for any past or future date.
  4. Enter the source timein HH:MM format (your device's time picker handles AM/PM automatically).
  5. Click Convert. The result shows the converted time, both zone offsets, and flags if the result falls on the next or previous day.

Example: New York 9:00 AM to London on 2026-05-15. New York is on EDT (UTC-4), London is on BST (UTC+1). The difference is 5 hours, so the result is 2:00 PM London, same day. Toggle between 12h and 24h display using the format selector next to the Convert button.

UTC and GMT time conversion

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global reference for all time zones. It never observes daylight saving time — UTC stays at offset UTC+0 year-round. GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is functionally identical to UTC for everyday calculations. Both are available in the zone list.

To use this as a UTC time calculator: select UTC as your source zone and any city as the destination, or vice versa. For example, 14:00 UTC converts to 10:00 AM New York (UTC-4) or 3:00 PM Paris (UTC+1) on a summer day. This is the same logic used in aviation, international finance, and software engineering wherever a universal time reference is needed.

EST, EDT, PST, PDT — and daylight saving time

Time zone abbreviations like EST, EDT, PST, and PDT describe the same geographic zones at different times of year. EST is Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5), used in winter. EDT is Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-4), used in summer when clocks spring forward. Similarly, PST is Pacific Standard Time (UTC-8) and PDT is Pacific Daylight Time (UTC-7).

This calculator handles the EST-to-EDT and PST-to-PDT transitions automatically. Select New York for Eastern Time or Los Angeles for Pacific Time — the correct abbreviation and offset appear in the result based on the date you choose. Eastern Time to Pacific Time is typically a 3-hour difference when both are on the same daylight saving schedule.

Countries observe daylight saving time on different dates. The US switches on the second Sunday of March; most of Europe switches on the last Sunday of March. During the 1–3 weeks between those dates, the gap between New York and London narrows from 5 hours to 4. The date field in this time zone calculator resolves this automatically.

Time Zone Calculator vs. related tools

Time Difference Calculator — answers “how many hours apart are these two zones?” rather than converting a specific time. Use it when you need the gap in hours and minutes between two cities, or to calculate elapsed time between two clock readings.

Military Time Converter — converts between 12-hour AM/PM and 24-hour (military) format within a single time zone. Use it when the format of the time is the question, not the zone.

Time Duration Calculator — measures how much time elapsed between two timestamps, with optional break deduction and support for date-range inputs spanning multiple days.

Need to convert to multiple destinations? Run the Time Zone Calculator once per target city — each conversion is independent and accounts for DST separately.
